Guiding Resilience: A Legal Workshop for Ag Service Providers, Fall 2025

Guiding Resilience empowers agricultural service providers to guide farmers and ranchers towards resolutions for their legal vulnerabilities.

This session of Guiding Resilience will meet:

September 16, 2025 12:00 pm CDT
September 23, 2025 12:00 pm CDT
September 30, 2025 12:00 pm CDT
October 7, 2025 12:00 pm CDT
October 14, 2025 12:00 pm CDT

As an agricultural service provider, farmers and ranchers likely come to you with legal questions, such as whether or not its legal to have interns or whether they should form an LLC, corporation, or neither. As a non-attorney, do you wish you knew where to turn for the answers?

Those answers aren’t always easy to come by — especially for the most innovative, direct-to-consumer producers. Guiding Resilience is a legal workshop designed just for you as an agricultural service provider, teaching the 10 best legal practices that you can share with producers without overstepping due bounds. You’ll walk away from this five-session, highly interactive, and facilitation-focused workshop ready to share your assets and wisdom to guide farmers and ranchers to legal solutions with confidence. Plus, you’ll have a group of fellow service providers to help keep you on track.

Join us in learning the 10 best practices of farm legal risk management over 5 weeks.

  • Session 1: Farm Law as Creative Power
  • Session 2: Organizing Farm Businesses for Legal Success
  • Session 3: Growing a Legally Resilient Workforce
  • Session 4: Accessing Farmland with Legal Confidence
  • Session 5: Diversifying Farm Enterprises Without Adding Legal Risk

Each week contains video learning, activities and reading selections. You’ll meet on Thursdays listed above with your instructor to learn more about the law and develop your practical skills.

Workshop Instructor

Chloe Johnson

Chloe Johnson is Farm Common’s Staff Attorney. Chloe’s work focuses on ensuring farmers and the agricultural community receive sharp legal analysis as she writes newsletters, books, guides, and supports curriculum development. Chloe farmed for many seasons, learning from Neil Taylor near her hometown in Ellenwood, GA, as well as on farms across North Carolina. Chloe earned her bachelor’s degree from New College of Florida and went on to study law at the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, GA. As an agricultural professional, Chloe has advised farmers through the Brannan Law Firm in Hillsborough, NC, on small business formation, zoning, and real estate issues. She owns land with four friends in Cedar Grove, NC, and is slowly turning that raw piece of land into a homesite and a place to grow her food and flowers.
